The Stibbert stiletto is a very close reproduction of a mid 17thC North Italian dagger in the Stibbert Collection in Florence. This beautiful dagger is styled very typically and has a hexagonal double sided blade designed mostly for thrusting. It comes with a double layer naturally tanned leather sheath with a latten (brass) chape.
The stiletto developed in the late 16thC and by the 17thC, was widespread across Italy, Spain and Portugal and to a lesser extent the rest of Europe.
Never a weapon of war, but a civilian dagger either as defence or more popularly considered for offence. Small, delicate looking, always fancy and above all lethal. Because of their ability to be stunning ‘Man jewellery’ combined with all their other attributes they were often sported by the moneyed rough and tumble set, and because of their thin and small size they were named stiletto; a small pen.
Please note the blade is fully hardened spring steel and can be supplied semi-sharp or sharp.
Overall length 30.5cm/12"
Grip length 8.5cm/3.5"
Blade length 21cm/8.25"
As our knives are handmade, these measurements may vary very slightly between examples.
Edge Sharpness
