Pack of 5 medieval buttons cast from original pieces. These were used in vast quantities through medieval Europe, mainly for clothing, but occasionally for other uses. These round-backed buttons work securely to do a jacket up, but also if you want to look rakishly fabulous, you can just pull your coat or doublet apart and it opens up (almost like a zip!) making you look very cool indeed.
I have to be honest and say I'm not sure about the exact nature of these buttons. Although you see them in the archaeological record often, I cannot recall noticing them on any portraits. So it is conceivable that the hollow framework was used as a foundation for weaving thread around them (or something similar) - This is purely my speculation.
