END OF NOV DELIVERY

The Grosses Messer was a popular medieval sword in  these short swords are of course not swords at all, but large knives! This messer was conceived during the renaissance and so it has all the latest features like a knuckle bow and knuckle stud or ‘nagel’.

Sword comes complete with a period appropriate leather covered, wood cored scabbard and belt with copper alloy fittings. Sword is hand forged, hardened and tempered from EN45 steel and comes semi-sharp as standard.

It is one of those odd hair splitting definitions that history is full of and in this case these predominantly German and Swiss weapons feature knife scale construction and a minimal pommel. In terms of how they feel and were used, they are very similar to falchions and so do not be deceived by the wide blade; they cut with authority but are still agile.

Edge sharpness

Semi-Sharp is 'butter knife sharp'; it has a very fine flat on the edge. Sharp has been ground to give a reasonable cutting edge, but fine honing, if required, is by the customer.
