The Swirk
This magnificent sword sized Scottish Dirk is the must have for every highlander for when a long knife is just not quite enough.
However I must be clear they never really existed but my goodness they should have done! Dirks are stylistically odd in that what appears to be the handle is actually part of the grip. Your hand should extend down over the haunches and up onto the pommel and so what seems to be a very small grip has lead to confusion. So I made a film about it and the Swirk (sword sized dirk) was born.
It is authentically styled with a black wood grip, brass pommel and guard and a magnificent scabbard and belt using decoration from existing dirk sheaths. Although it is fantasy, based in history, it is still 100% sword with a hand forged, 1060 spring steel, single edged dirk style blade with fuller and filework.
It matches in perfectly with other dirks in our range and of course our Sgian Dhu for the ultimate contrast between big and small.
Blade 86cm/34”
Grip length 18cm/7” (includes haunches)
Overall length 106cm/42”

The Scottish Dirk
The Scottish Dirk was the classic dagger of both the Highland and Lowland Scots from the early 18thC.
The Dirk developed on from the bollock dagger through the Dudgeon dagger to this simple early form. The Scottish Dirk is characterised by a small barrel shaped grip with a stylised version of the bollock daggers' balls and a brass cap and impact plate and a long blade. The pommel cap is perforated with a heart motif; again a classic detail of the time.
Overall length 49cm/19"
Blade length 38cm/15"
Grip length 7cm/2.75"
The Sgian Dhu
18thC Scottish Sgian Dhu traditional dress sock dagger. This iconic Scottish dagger is an absolute must have and was worn by Highland warriors for centuries.
Well not quite. The Sgian Dhu or 'black dagger' actually never existed before the mid 19thC and is a complete fiction, but is utterly embedded in popular culture and we are often asked about them, so we decided to offer one.
Our Sgian Dhu is a reduced version of a full size late 17thC/early 18thC Scottish dirk, the true fighting knife of the Scots, so IF the Sgian Dhu existed, it may well have looked very much like this. Brass haunches, a black wood grip and flattened brass pommel so it looks all 'dirk' but will sit close and comfortably to your body when worn in a sock.
It has a fully functional, single edged blade with file work spine and comes with a period decorated naturally tanned leather sheath and brass chape.
We have 3 sizes of this style; the Sgian Dhu, the short brass and black wood dirk, and the long brass and black wood dirk. Available individually or as a set.
Overall length 8.25"/20.5cm
Blade length 4.25"/11cm
Grip length 3.5"/9cm
