This hand made, reproduction, 19thC Bowie knife is based on those exported in vast numbers from Sheffield to the US and was the must have knife associated with Jim Bowie.
The origins of the knife and who designed it are not clear, but it seems that Jim Bowie used a knife similar to this in a famous fight in 1827 that was written up in news papers and so the legend was born and the "Bowie" knife became a required item for frontiers men, adventurers and the rough and tough of the US through the American Civil War and on to the early 20thC.
There is no fixed design for the knife, but ours follow set precedents of a thick and substantial blade, clipped point with false edge and an S shaped quillon guard.
Blade length 9"/23cm
Blade width 1.5"/4cm at widest point
Overall length 14"/35cm
Grip length 4.5"/11cm
Edge sharpness
Semi-Sharp is 'butter knife sharp'; it has a very fine flat on the edge but can be sharpened for a little extra.
Sharp has been ground to give a reasonable edge, but final honing, if required, is by the customer.
Please note: The colours may vary in tone from the photos here. Each skin of leather is different and reacts differently to the dye so they may be darker or lighter in tone
