12thC Single handed Sword
A classic high medieval sword from the 11th and 12thC using a very plain and austere guard and pommel, but none-the-less clearly following on from earlier Viking-age swords, but this being an Xa blade, it is just a little more pointed than its earlier cousins.
Built for cutting, but with a relatively long 79cm blade and sharp point, this is a formidable sword and was exactly of the type favoured through the early periods of the crusades and the endless low level warfare across most of Western Europe.
Comes with a fantastic wood cored scabbard and period accurate belts.
Edge sharpness:
Semi-Sharp is 'butter knife sharp'; it has a very fine flat on the edge. Sharp has been ground to give a reasonable cutting edge, but final honing, if required, is by the customer.
Blade length 79cm/31"
Overall length 95cm/37.5”
Grip length 10cm/4”
Weight 1180g/2.6lbs
Point of balance 13.5cm/5.25” from hilt
