Wakefield Hanger Falchion Reproduction Medieval Sword 1450-1500
The Wakefield Falchion is seen from around 1450-1500 single handed medieval sword. Wakefield Hangers were a family of swords The ‘falchion’ or ‘hanger’ developed during the Wars of the Roses. Designed to offer men at arms, foot soldiers and archers excellent hand protection in a compact, light and agile side arm. This family of swords are often referred to as Wakefield Hangers and have either a knuckle stud or full knuckle bow. Our version is based on the IX.144 from the Royal Armouries and incorporates the full knuckle bow I believe the sword originally had. These type of short swords were also popular sidearms for billmen and archers during the Wars of the Roses the early Tudor period.
Sword comes complete with a period appropriate leather covered, wood cored scabbard and belt with copper alloy fittings.
