This fabulous, deadly and striking renaissance rondel dagger is a classic of the time. Clearly this style was beloved by the Landsknechts, but they also spread far and wide across Europe, so although this style came out of the workshops of Dresden in the late 15thC they would be found all over Europe.
This dagger may have a slim and elegant form, but it is in fact all about armoured fighting. The slender and relatively long grip works well with gauntlets and the triangular blade works well against armoured opponents. The small downturn to the front guard dates it to 1500 to 1550, but very, very similar daggers were available from around 1480.
It is easy to imagine an all steel rondel would be heavy, but the hollow top pommel keeps the weight down and makes it a highly manoeuvrable and functional dagger, as well as an elegant one.
The dagger comes with a double layer naturally tanned leather sheath with copper alloy chape and suspended from cords.
Edge sharpness - This dagger like all triangular blades has a wicked point, but is not designed for cutting so is only available as semi sharp.
