Plumbata/Ferrata! - In the late Roman Empire they introduced an amazing skirmishing weapon; the plumbata. These were small hand thrown arrows, weighted with lead, that could be cast out to 100m or more and were carried inside a legionaries shield.
Traditionally the weight was lead which as single use items was fine, but my reproductions use a steel weight for longevity, mounted on a tough ash shaft and fletched with goose feather, so I guess they should be called Ferrata!
The heads are forged from a single piece, have wicked barbs and are supplied in sets of 5 just like the originals. These are the ones you can see in the films.
I absolutely love these plumbata and I keep making films about them and you will find some of them here. Also if you want the targets in the films you can get these on todcutler.com also - go to the "Targets, hoodies, T-shirts and Mugs" collection
(small targets downloadable for personal or club use)
