These plans layout the pieces you need to make a historically-accurate 16thC Stonebow. This is an advanced project, recommended only for experienced makers and engineers.
This product will provide full downloadable engineering drawings, complete with all dimensions and materials required to make the 30 components used in the bow. It includes details of making jigs which may assist in the construction of specific components like the string of the bow.
Medieval and Renaissance Stonebows were popular in the 15th and 16thC in England, but date back to the early 15thC in Italy and earlier in China. They shoot small rolled clay balls or more powerfully, lead shot.
The cheapness of clay balls means that it was very useful for small game and birds where bolts would easily get lost.
Stonebows are hand spanned and around 140lbs and accurate and fast enough for pigeons at 20m/20yds.
The plans complement the YouTube videos that demonstrate making and shooting the stonebow. The making video can be found here and the shooting video can be found here.
With these plans and the online video, anyone can make a stonebow for shooting pigeons, rabbits or at a target in the garden.
